DO..

Prepare your surface

If you want your installation to go quickly and smoothly, preparing your surface is key. You need to make sure the floor is clean and dry, a quick sweep or vacuum is all it will take. Dusty floors will affect how well the tiles stick.

Plan your layout

Taking a few extra minutes to plan your layout will avoid spending time fixing mistakes. Lay a few tiles out before applying any adhesive to make sure you’re happy with the pattern or design. Carpet tiles are extremely versatile when it comes to design, having the layout clearly planned out will help transform your space.

Start from the centre of the room

When installing carpet tiles, you want to start in the centre of the room. Mark the centre with a piece of chalk, this is where you’ll place your first tile, then work your way outwards toward the walls. Walls are rarely perfectly straight, starting in the centre of the room will make sure you achieve a symmetrical professional look.

Use the right adhesive

Carpet tiles don’t necessarily need gluing down, however, we recommend you secure them using an adhesive, especially in larger areas. Most carpet tiles require a tackifier adhesive which is applied to the floor before laying the tiles. This holds the tiles securely in place whilst still allowing them to be lifted and replaced if needed.

DONT…

Ignore directional arrows

All carpet tiles will have arrows on the back which show the direction of the pile, facing the arrows the same way will achieve a consistent finish. If your goal is to create a more textured look, face the arrows in different directions.

Use an old blade

When installing, you want to make sure you’re using a fresh utility knife. This will help to avoid frayed edges and jagged cuts.

And last but not least don’t panic!

Carpet tiles are designed to be lifted and repositioned, if you have made a mistake they can be easily replaced. It is always a good idea to order more tiles than you need, this allows for cuts, mistakes and it gives you future replacements to keep your floor looking its best.

Durable, easy to install and budget-friendly, carpet tiles offer a practical and aesthetic solution for any room.
