Are Carpet Tiles A Good Option For Commercial Premises?

Are Carpet Tiles A Good Option For Commercial Premises?

If you’re planning to refurbish a commercial premises – whether an office, a hospitality venue or a retail outlet – you need to ensure you think about your flooring option. It can be easy to get caught up in the overall design of the space, but your flooring can make or break the overall aesthetic you create.

Of course, you need to think about the practical aspects of your flooring in what are likely to be high foot traffic areas, but luckily carpet tiles tick both the aesthetic and practical boxes.

Are carpet tiles durable?

The short answer to that question is yes. Carpet tiles have been designed with busy spaces in mind. The carpet itself has a low pile, which means it might not feel as fluffy as the kind of carpet you’d have in your home, but that the fabric can withstand a lot of use.

Some brands, such as Heckmondwike carpets, have anti-fray and anti-ravel properties, which means they are especially resistant to damage. Carpet tiles are designed for furniture to be moved around on them, as well as for people to be walking over them frequently.

The low pile nature of carpet tiles means that it’s much easier to slide chairs across the surface, for instance, while you also won’t see such defined dents in your carpet tiles as you might in a high pile carpet.

Are carpet tiles easy to clean?

This is one of the biggest selling points of carpet tiles, particularly in commercial premises. The low pile fabric makes a difference here too, as this makes the flooring more resistant to stains and easier to vacuum on a day-to-day basis.

Because the fabric of the carpet is much shorter than higher pile options, it has less dense fibres. This means it is less likely to collect dust and other allergens, which is another plus for spaces that will be used by a lot of different people.

Cleaning carpet tiles is simple – you can vacuum them as you would any other flooring option and you can spot clean any stains using carpet cleaners and water.

Do you have design options with carpet tiles?

Yes! Carpet tiles come in a variety of colours and finishes. Some are patterned with stripes, others are plain colours. The beauty of carpet tiles is that you don’t have to choose one colour and stick with it for your whole space.

You could use different coloured carpet tiles to denote walkways around an open-plan office, for instance. Or you could have different coloured or patterned carpet tiles for different zones in a space – such as the bar area versus a dining area in a hospitality venue.

Another option is to select complimentary colours and create a checker board effect on your flooring. You can be creative with your carpet tiles, so don’t limit yourself to grey flooring unless that’s really what you want.

In educational establishments like schools, carpet tiles offer an opportunity to get creative with your design to create more engaging learning environments for children. Again, the idea of using different coloured tiles to denote different “zones” in classrooms can be valuable in this context.

Are carpet tiles eco-friendly?

Carpet tiles are an eco-friendly flooring option for a number of reasons. First, because you only need to purchase the number of tiles required to cover a space. Unlike rolls of carpet, where there will be substantial waste from offcuts due to the wall-to-wall installation, carpet tiles create much less waste.

Some carpet tile manufacturers, like Burmatex, now use ecofibre for some of their carpet tiles. In this instance, the company blends recycled, regenerated and virgin fibres for its eco-cordiale range.

Another reason why carpet tiles are an eco-friendly option is that, should one part of your flooring be damaged, you only need to replace the affected tiles, not the whole floor covering. This means you can make minimal repairs saving you money and preventing you from creating waste by having to recarpet an entire room when only one patch needs refreshing.

Are carpet tiles easy to install?

Carpet tiles are much easier to install than rolled carpets, but for the best effect and to ensure that none of the tiles move or shift once they’ve been installed, it’s advisable to use a professional carpet fitter to do the work.

There are various ways in which you can lay the tiles to create different effects, so speak to your installer about the overall look you want to achieve and they should be able to lay the carpet tiles accordingly.

Are carpet tiles expensive?

Carpet tiles are one of the most cost-effective flooring options available for businesses, although naturally the amount you spend will depend on what type of tiles you choose as there are cheaper and more expensive ranges available.

As we mentioned earlier, one of the advantages when costing up a carpet replacement with tiles is that you only need to purchase enough tiles to cover the space. You don’t need to allow extra carpet to ensure that the edges are properly fitted like you do when you install a rolled carpet.

What’s more, because carpet tiles come in a standard size of 50x50cm, it is easy to calculate how many you will need in any given space.
